Fourth-ranked
and 7th-seeded SLU
(14-3-3) played host to a 1-0 NCAA second-round victory over
Binghamton University
(12-3-7) at Robert R. Hermann Stadium before a vocal "blue"
crowd of 2,562 on a brisk fall night. The Billikens outplayed
the Bearcats for the entire match but could not score during
regulation play. Freshman forward Vedad Ibisevic, on an assist
from sophomore midfielder Cooper McKee, was finally able to put
a shot in goal during the 6th minute (96th minute of game play)
of the first overtime period. The victory allows the Billikens
to host their NCAA third-round match. SLU junior goalkeeper Martin
Hutton only needed to make 1 save during the contest; a result
of the defensive pressure from the Billikens. SLU had 19 shots
(11 shots-on-goal) as compared with 2 shots (1 shot-on-goal)
by Binghamton. |
