The Billikens fell behind in the first half 24-31 due to poor shooting and lack of free throw activity. Led by strong inside play by Bridget Beckmann and Christan Shelton, SLU was able to cut into the Lady 49ers' lead and eventually tie and then lead the contest. However, with 2.5 seconds remaining in the game and the score tied, UNCC's Tonya Phifer hit a jumper to give the 49ers what proved to be the winning basket. A last-second shot by Billiken Mandy Lueking fell short, as did SLU by a final score of 58-60. |
