Billikens (15-9, 6-4) has clinched at least a 0.500 record by
winning their fourth straight game, a 69-61 victory over the
University of North
Carolina-Charlotte 49ers (8-15, 2-7) at the Chaifetz
Arena (reported attendance = 7,144). SLU started the game
slowly and committed many turnovers, which resulted in an early
10-point deficit and went into halftime trailing 29-28. The Billikens
came back in the second half behind the scoring efforts of senior
guard Kevin Lisch (18 pts, 6 rebounds). Freshman guard Kwamain
Mitchell (14 pts, 6 rebounds, 5 assists), senior guard Tommie
Liddell, III (13 pts, 2 assists), senior forward Barry Eberhardt
(11 pts, 3 rebounds), and freshman center Willie Reed (9 pts,
5 rebounds, 5 blocked shots) were instrumental in the victory.
The 49ers were led by senior forwards Charlie Coley, III (18
pts, 6 rebounds) and Lamont Mack (16 pts, 3 rebounds), sophomore
forward An'Juan Wilderness (10 pts, 6 rebounds), and junior guard
DiJuan Harris (7 pts, 2 rebounds, 9 assists, 3 steals). Saint
Louis shot 47% from the field (64% from 3-pt range) and 71% (20-28)
from the charity line. UNCC shot 39% from the field (17% from
3-pt range) and 82% (14-17) from the charity line. The Billikens
had 32 rebounds (10O, 22D), 9 assists, 4 steals, 6 blocked shots,
and 15 turnovers as compared with 33 rebounds (15O, 18D), 13
assists, 8 steals, 4 blocked shots, and 14 turnovers by the 49ers. |
