Louis University Billikens (12-10, 3-5) played well in front
of the home crowd but lost a 70-68 duel with #13 ranked Xavier
University Musketeers (19-4, 7-1) at the Scottrade Center
(reported attendance, 10823). The Billikens took a 1-point lead
early in the game but played from behind most of the game, trailing
by as many as 16 points. Saint Louis shot much better from 3-point
range and from the free throw line but Xavier matched their efforts.
The Billikens were led by junior guards Kevin Lisch (25 pts,
4 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals) and Tommie Liddell, III (10
pts, 6 rebounds), senior forward Luke Meyer (11 pts, 4 rebounds),
and junior forward Barry Eberhardt (8 pts). Saint Louis shot
42% from the field (56% from 3-pt range) and 80% (16-20) from
the charity line. The Musketeers were led by senior forward Josh
Duncan (15 pts, 4 rebounds), senior guard Drew Lavender (13 pts,
4 rebounds), sophomore forward Derrick Brown (12 pts, 9 rebounds,
3 assists), senior guard Stanley Burrell (12 pts, 4 rebounds),
and junior guard C.J. Anderson (11 pts, 5 rebounds). Massachusetts
shot 47% from the field (46% from 3-pt range) and 82% (14-17)
from the charity line. The Billikens had 29 rebounds (7O, 22D),
11 assists, 4 steals, 5 blocked shots, and 9 turnovers as compared
with 35 rebounds (9O, 26D), 7 assists, 1 steal, 1 blocked shot,
and 9 turnovers by the Musketeers. |
