SLU
Billikens (15-8, 5-4) defeated George
Washington University (15-5, 6-3) 63-53 for their second-straight
win (and second-straight A10 victory) at the Scottrade Center
(reported attendance, 8,744). GWU had much confidence against
the Billikens but were only able to build a small 30-26 halftime
advantage. The Billikens were (on average) the shorter team on
the floor, but they were able to muscle the Colonials from the
boards. What appeared to hurt GWU the most were a series of shooting
slumps and SLU's free throw advantage. SLU was led by senior
center Ian Vouyoukas (16 pts, 3 rebounds), junior forward Luke
Meyer (15 pts, 6 rebounds) and the sophomore guard duo of Tommie
Liddell (13 pts, 10 rebounds) and Kevin Lisch (10 pts, 4 rebounds,
6 assists). The Billikens shot 40% from the field (25% from 3-pt
range) and 80% (24-28) from the charity line. The Colonials were
led by senior guard Carl Elliott (12 pts, 3 rebounds, 5 assists,
3 steals), sophomore forward Rob Diggs (12 pts, 6 rebounds, 3
blocked shots), and junior guard Maureece Rice (9 pts, 2 rebounds).
GWU shot 41% from the field (23% from 3-pt range) and 100% (4-4)
from the charity line. SLU had 38 rebounds (12O, 26D), 12 assists,
3 steals, 1 blocked shot, and 13 turnovers as compared with 25
rebounds (7O, 18D), 8 assists, 8 steals, 4 blocked shots, and
9 turnovers by GWU. |
