(2-1) rallied to defeat Stony
Brook University (0-3) 71-62 in the opening round of the
Coca-Cola Billiken Classic at the Bauman-Eberhardt Center before
a very small audience (no reported attendance). The visiting
Seawolves appeared to build a comfortable 35-28 halftime lead
on numerous Billikens turnovers. However, SLU fought back in
the second half, led by senior forward Angie Lewis (22 pts, 11
rebounds) and senior guard Kirsti Holloway (16 pts, 4 rebounds,
4 assists). Also contributing to the victory were sophomore center
Lakrisha Brown (6 points and 8 rebounds), senior center Stephanie
Solomon (9 points, 5 rebounds), and sophomore guard Shea Kenny
(6 pts, 5 rebounds, 5 assists). SLU shot 39% from the field (15%
from 3-pt range) and 72% from the charity line. The Seawolves
were led by freshman guard Mykeema Ford (13 pts), freshman forward
Inbar Orion (12 pts, 7 rebounds, 3 steals), junior guard Stephanie
Bartlett (11 pts, 6 rebounds, 4 assists), and freshman forward
Jessica Smith (10 pts). SBU shot 42% from the field (36% from
3-pt range) and 73% from the charity line. |
