(9-12, 3-7) plucked a 59-58 upset victory from #2 ranked University of Louisville Cardinals
(18-2, 8-1) at Savvis Center (reported attendance, 11,338). The
Billikens were led offensively by senior guard Marque Perry (5),
senior guard Josh Fisher and junior forward Chris Sloan with
25, 11 and 11 points, respectively, and defensively by senior
center Kenny Brown with 11 rebounds. The Cardinals leading scorer
was senior guard Reese Gaines (22) with 28 points. Chris Sloan
hit a last-second three-point basket to give the Billikens a
30-27 halftime lead. SLU was able to shut down senior center
Marvin Stone (21), which allowed them to stay close in the second
half. After several turnovers late in the game and trailing 58-57,
Marque Perry hit a basket with 2 seconds remaining on the clock
to provide the upset. SLU trailed on the boards 30-32 but were
able to cause 16 turnovers by the Cardinals along with 9 steals.
The Billikens shot 34% from the field, the Cardinals shot 46%.
