(11-9, 2-3) played their second straight overtime contest, a
68-65 loss to Marquette
University (10-7, 2-3) at the Bauman-Eberhardt Center before
a more typical crowd (reported inflated attendance, 417). Junior
forward Angie Lewis (50) only scored 6 points for the Billikens,
who were led by senior guard Harmonie King (22) and junior forward
Jana Haywood (24) with 17 and 12 points, respectively. The Golden
Eagles were led by freshman guard Carolyn Kieger (2) with 14
points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists, sophomore forward Katie Alsdurf
(22) with 13 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists, and junior guard
Kelly Schwerman (31) with 13 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists.
The Billikens trailed 9-0 early in the contest and were able
to close to 32-28 at the intermission. Regulation time ended
tied 53-53, but then the Billikens were unable to capitalize
on Marquette errors and lost by the final score of 68-65. There
were a total of 37 turnovers, 26 by Marquette and 11 by the Billikens.
Marquette dominated the boards 51-31. SLU shot only 52% from
the charity line. |
